DAY 2: Dubai...and the living is easy
Shop, shop, shop. Did we need anything? No, of course not. Didn't stop us from buying jewelry, lemon salt, and water. (It was the lemon salt that really got us into trouble...see what happened to Corinne below.)
Masuda let us go off on our own for an hour, and Toni fell into the street, and missed getting run over by a bus. (She's absolutely fine, mom.) In a tiny spice shop, Corinne got into a near fist fight with a woman in black from Oman. Laurie and Ray saved the day.
Wendy and Susan arrived from Newark. Susan immediately took to her bed, and Wendy found an unbelievable Saks Fifth Avenue sample sale right in the hotel! There was some business, however, we pushed through an hour-long rehearsal on interviewing our Afghan lady candidates.
To wring everything out of Dubai we could, we hired a driver to take us to the most expensive hotel in the world, where clearly they had heard about us and wouldn't let us in. So, we went to the second most expensive hotel--Royal Mirage--and they were happy to serve us as many drinks as we could handle. (Remember, there's no liquor in Kabul.)
Right now, Ray is plying us with snacks as we write this blog. Yes, life is tough on these Bpeace missions. (But then again, we do have to be in the hotel lobby at 4:15 am for the taxi to the airport, for our maiden flight to Kabul.)
